About Me

Quilter, Family Historian, Dog Mom, Wife, and Nana, Among Other Things

Hi! I’m excited that you’re here. Let me tell you a little about myself. I have been an avid quilter since 2011. From 2019 – 2023, my friend and I had a business called “My Grandmother’s Quilt” where we taught our members how to make quilt blocks and turn them into quilts. It was a blast! But the business wasn’t able to sustain itself. Since then, I’ve been letting my imagination loose in my sewing room and have been creating quilts left and right, and genuinely loving the creative process.

I’m a dog mom, something I never thought I’d be. Cricket was a yellow Labrador Retriever overflowing with love. He was a trained therapy dog and, pre-COVID, we visited a local long- and short-term care facility on a weekly basis. For the entire 5 years we had him, he was my constant companion and unofficial service dog, alerting to my emotions, high blood pressure, and asthma. We lost him the last day of September 2021. Ten days later, much to my surprise, we welcomed home a black Labrador Retriever/Border Collie mix named Jetta. She is NOT a service dog, and she is NOT a therapy dog, but she fills our lives with joy and laughter. In case you were wondering, our household definitely revolves around the dog!

In October 2003 I met my soulmate, Jim, and we got married the following May. He was a package deal, and came with three half-grown sons, earning me the rank of Evil Wicked Stepmother. Needless to say, my life went from boring to extremely interesting literally overnight! Jim is my port in the storm, my rock, the calm to my crazy. His favorite way to show affection is to tease me. He makes me laugh every day. I couldn’t ask for a better husband or life-partner. As a result of that marriage — and because I really wasn’t Evil and Wicked — my oldest stepson and his wife made me a grandmother — on my birthday, no less — in 2023. Just when I thought life couldn’t get any better!

Family history is my passion, and has been since I started more than 20 years ago. I love the research, digging through the records, searching for clues, and taking all the pieces of the puzzle, putting them together, and discovering what emerges. In some cases, the picture for a person is very straightforward. In other cases, it’s constantly evolving, with new records negating previous assumptions. I love it!
