Siegmund Salomon Rothschild, 17 July 1818 – 7 September 1877

Up until a couple years ago, I believed Siegmund and his wife had one son, and that was it. Then, out of the blue, I was contacted by a new-to-me cousin, Andy Selig, who let me know not only did Siegmund also have a daughter, but provided me with family photos, and information on 5Continue reading “Siegmund Salomon Rothschild, 17 July 1818 – 7 September 1877”

Abraham Stern, 23 Jan 1805 – ?

Here we have another short bio, this one about Abraham Stern. He was the third child and first son of Kain Heinemann Stern and Geidel Rothschild, and was the grandson of Salomon Abraham Rothschild. Abraham was born 23 January 1805 in Niedenstein. On 4 April 1841, he married the 23 year old Beilchen Rosenbaum fromContinue reading “Abraham Stern, 23 Jan 1805 – ?”

Solke Stern Rosenmeyer, 1803 – ?

First of all, I’d like to apologize for the long silence. Despite being toned-down, the holiday season was crazy, hectic, and stressful. Mom had pneumonia, recovered, then both parents had COVID. We saw them a few days before they were symptomatic, so we were on quarantine for awhile. Jim and I had food poisoning NewContinue reading “Solke Stern Rosenmeyer, 1803 – ?”

Simon and Selig Stern

I’m combining the entries for Simon and Selig Stern because there’s so little information on Simon, and the two spent their lives together. As always, unless otherwise noted, the information comes from the Synagogue Vöhl website. Both were the two oldest sons of Märle Rothschild and David Stern, and the grandsons of Salomon Abraham Rothschild.Continue reading “Simon and Selig Stern”

Giedel Rothschild Heinemann-Stern, 1778 – 1861

Sometimes, as is the case with Giedel’s sister, Märle, there’s a limited amount of information. Sometimes, as you’ll see when we get to Adolph Rothschild, there’s more information than you know what to do with. And sometimes, as is the case with Giedel, there’s a lot of information, but much of it doesn’t make sense,Continue reading “Giedel Rothschild Heinemann-Stern, 1778 – 1861”

Märle Rothschild Stern, about 1775 – ?

What we know about Märle Rothschild is limited to her father’s name, her husband’s name, her children, her presumed birth year, and that she lived in Vöhl. She was the oldest known daughter of Salomon Abraham Rothschild. She was presumably born in Vöhl around 1775. Unless otherwise noted, the information for Märle comes from http://www.synagoge-voehl.de.Continue reading “Märle Rothschild Stern, about 1775 – ?”

Selig Salomo Rothschild, 1770 – 1840

Selig Salomo (or Salomon) Rothschild is the oldest son, and presumed oldest child, of Salomon Abraham Rothschild. I say “presumed” because we know Salomon Abraham Rothschild had at least 6 children, two of which were sons. All other known children are younger than Selig. Selig was born about 1770 in Vöhl. The information for SeligContinue reading “Selig Salomo Rothschild, 1770 – 1840”

Salomon Abraham Rothschild, 1747 – 1816

The first recorded Jews in Vöhl were Ascher Rothschild and Seligman Rothschild, listed as homeowners in 1705. To be registered home and land owners, these men needed to have been born by about 1680 at the latest. As yet, I haven’t found the connection to these early Rothschilds, though I’m sure there is one. IContinue reading “Salomon Abraham Rothschild, 1747 – 1816”
